Paul Choy becomes Goodwill Ambassador

Port-Louis – International documentary photographer and writer, Paul Choy becomes Goodwill Ambassador of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Paul Choy will join forces with IOM, the UN Migration Agency, to promote safe, regular and orderly migration by igniting and encouraging conversations about the benefits and challenges of migration and how migration can be a driver for development, through creative avenues of storytelling.

Together, Paul Choy and IOM Mauritius will lead a campaign entitled Stories of Migration, which ambitions to share the stories of people who have personally experienced migration, told in a series of photographic and written word profiles.

Collectively these stories capturing the emotions of migration and its multifaceted nature will aim at bringing out the issues and opportunities of migration and encouraging dialogues and conversations about migration

“I am honored to welcome Paul Choy as our Goodwill Ambassador. As one of the most talented photographer and storyteller, he has a huge influence across all generations, in Mauritius and abroad. His engagement with IOM can truly contribute to enrich the dialogue on migration-related issues through an innovative and creative lens,” said Céline Lemmel, IOM Chief of Mission. “In him we see an outstanding personality who will enrich and stimulate dialogue about migration through his creative lens. He will help us bring forward the positive impacts of regular, safe and dignified migration. We are very enthusiastic about this collaboration,” she added.

“I am both honored and humbled to be asked to serve as a Goodwill Ambassador of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The important work of IOM in promoting international cooperation to ensure humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all is a cause about which I am hugely passionate. Working together with IOM Mauritius to share authentic, often intimate, stories of people who have experienced the challenges, benefits, heartache, and joy of migration, I sincerely hope that Stories of Migration will prove a force for change in our attitudes and approach to migration,” said Paul Choy.

Stories of Migration will be marked by a series of activities which will be launched in December 2021, as part of the celebration of IOM’s 70th anniversary.
