This project pilots an intervention in three industrial zones in Hanoi to enhance the accommodation and living standards of internal migrant workers. Currently, there are no official laws and regulations to guide leasing providers on the minimum living conditions of accommodations for workers, particularly those residing in the industrial zones, who are the most vulnerable in securing lodging. The overall objective is to contribute to ensuring that internal migrant workers in Viet Nam, especially women, have access to safe and adequate accommodation and living conditions. This will be achieved by working with local authorities, including the Women’s Union, landlords, businesses and migrant workers, particularly women, to develop and pilot a gender-responsive assessment tool for accommodation providers to evaluate their housing in line with international best practices (Output 1.1). Based on the tool, local authorities and landlords in the three identified districts will implement the standards and corrective actions guided by the tool, taking into consideration the needs of women migrants with children (Output 1.2). A policy dialogue will then be held with authorities to develop sustainable policies, based on the findings of the pilot (Output 2.1). To strengthen community awareness, the Women’s Union will also directly engage women migrant workers to provide them with information and resources on accessing safe and adequate accommodation and living conditions (Output 2.2).
