Benefiting Member States
Lesotho Malawi Mauritius
Building on a regional diaspora framework programme and in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), this proposed project aims to strengthen diaspora engagement towards national development initiatives. The project will target the countries of Lesotho, Malawi and Mauritius – all of which have recognized the potential contribution of diaspora communities to their development goals. This funding will support assessments/recommendations that will inform the alignment of diaspora policies with national development plans and processes, in addition to designing targeted investment instruments and related communication strategies to attract and channel diaspora engagement. At the regional level, this project aims to facilitate a dialogue between a broad ecosystem of actors in order to strengthen regional integration and influence sub-regional actors to further contribute to opening the regulatory space for more effective cross-border remittances and use thereof. In addition to building momentum around the facilitation and utility of diaspora financial capital, this project will further kick start joint work on related areas between IOM and UNDP at the national and regional level to result in greater impact.
