Approval of this request allowed for six month's support for an HIV/AIDS Regional Coordinator, to be based in the Western Balkans. Increased UNAIDS and UNICEF interest in the region, building on a June 2001 conference, pointed towards increased programmatic activity and probable donor interest in HIV/AIDS actions in the Balkans. The IOM coordinator helped reinforce the migration features of the agenda, and integrate them into a comprehensive regional strategy with partner agencies.
