Côte d'Ivoire
For decades, Ivorians have been emigrating to different parts of the world, mainly Africa and Europe, for a variety of socio-economic reasons. As a result, the Ivorian diaspora is present worldwide, with 1.15 million Ivorians living outside the borders of Côte d'Ivoire. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), France is by far the country of choice for Ivorian emigrants due to its historical and linguistic links with Côte d'Ivoire: some 143,000 Ivorian emigrants were living in France in 2020. Aware of the economic, human and socio-cultural potential of its diaspora, the Government of Côte d'Ivoire is determined to involve them in the country's economic development. It firmly believes in the added value of the Ivorian diaspora in developing and diversifying the skills of the Ivorian socio-economic ecosystem.
In light of the above, the objective of this project is to contribute to the efforts of the Government of Côte d'Ivoire to promote the engagement of diaspora members as sustainable national development actors.
The project will seek to do so by enabling the Government of Côte d'Ivoire to develop and implement tools and measures for cooperation with the Ivorian diaspora for the establishment of a sustainable approach to diaspora engagement (Outcome 1) by making available to the Direction Générale de la Diaspora a gender-sensitive mapping of the Ivorian diaspora in France (Output 1.1), conducting a gender-sensitive awareness-raising campaign to strengthen dialogue with the Ivorian diaspora in France (Output 1.2) and engaging six professionals from the Ivorian diaspora, three men and three women, residing in France to transfer their skills to priority sectors in Côte d'Ivoire (Output 1.3). This methodology will serve as a model to be replicated in other countries with a significant Ivorian diaspora.
