Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. Context
Under the direct supervision of the Global Migration Health Research & Epidemiology (MHD Research) Coordinator in IOM Berlin and in close coordination with the Migration Health Informatics (MHI) Manager in IOM Valencia, the MHI Team in IOM MAC, and the MHD Research Team in MAC, the successful candidate will support the MHD Research Unit in the design and development of data visualization platforms, for internal and external use.
Core Functions / Responsibilities
- Support the design, development, and maintenance of data visualization platforms of various migration health data products (such as interactive dashboards, maps, charts, and infographics) for internal and external analysis and reporting.
- Support the improvement/ enhancement of existing MHD knowledge-sharing and communication platforms on Migration Health Research (e.g., MHD Research Guide SharePoint page, Migration Health Research Portal, MHADRI portal, Migration Health Research Bulletin, and Migration Health Research Podcast), through designing/ developing new visual elements and layout, in coordination with the IOM ICT Team.
- Draft user guides, including common troubleshooting guidelines, for websites, data visualization platforms, and content management system (CMS) maintained by the MHD Research Team and support MHD institutional data collection, reporting and knowledge management systems.
- Coordinate with focal persons in the MHI Team involving the use of the migration health data warehouse and other data sources, including dimensional data models that address MHD reporting needs, as well as tasks that support the development and maintenance of regular and ad hoc data visualization platforms, reports, and data analysis.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Education
- University degree in Information Technology, Medical Informatics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with two years of relevant professional experience.
- Certifications related to database administration and/or reporting are preferable.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience
- A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in the use of data visualization tools such as Power BI (including data modelling), Tableau, D3.js, QlikView/Qlik Sense, Adobe Illustrator, Plotly; and, data science tools such as Jupyter Notebooks, Google Data Studio
- Experience in the management and processing of large and complex databases.
- Use of programming languages like SQL, or Python.
- Experience in Microsoft Synapse or Fabric data analytics is an advantage.
- Use of website content management systems such as Drupal and Joomla.
- Use of document management and storage systems like SharePoint.
- Involvement in health or medical research projects is an advantage.
- Programming: Strong programming skills in languages commonly used in data science, such as Python or R. Additionally, an understanding of coding good practices, version control, and code documentation is desirable.
- Data Mining: Proficiency in data mining techniques to discover valuable patterns and insights in large datasets.
- Data Manipulation: Strong skills in using appropriate programming languages or tools for data manipulation (i.e., data cleaning, transformation, and integration) to prepare data for analysis.
- Data Visualization: Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is essential. Solid capacity to create compelling and informative visualizations that facilitate understanding of complex data.
- Data Interpretation: Skill in identifying trends, patterns, and outliers in datasets.
- Web Content Management: Skill in creating, editing, and publishing website content, including web design.
Languages
For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is desirable.
