Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. Context
Under the overall supervision of the Chief, ICT Enterprise Architecture and Technology and the direct supervision of the ICT Officer (Database Management), the successful candidate will be responsible for managing and maintaining optimum operation of all MS SQL production and non-production databases; and design/implementation and maintaining strict security rights to sensitive data as per IOM’s data protection principles.
Core Functions / Responsibilities
- Support the Database Administration Lead in compilation and analysis of business requirements and in the design, development and implementation of information systems and applications.
- Coordinate and monitor the deployment of corporate application’s databases upgrades
- Carry out SQL Server upgrades (New SQL versions, Service Packs & hotfixes)
- Configure and manage system and database user IDs and group permissions
- Recommend deployment, backup and optimization strategies according to standard industry best practices
- Act as a subject matter expert for large database-driven applications
- Support data access analysis and design, DBMS optimization, data integrity, recovery & load strategy.
- Oversee backup and recovery on databases is in place
- Design and implement high availability of MS SQL based production systems including the disaster recovery solution implementation
- Configure and monitor interfaces with other systems
- Configure, and coordinate and oversee maintenance of schema, tables, views, functions, triggers and indexes
- Identify opportunities for optimizing business and system effectiveness
- Support formal testing and resolve test defects.
- Efficient at T-SQL and batch scripting.
- Manage the ticket ownership process and provide tier 3 level support
- Provide guidance and training to other staff in the unit
- Perform any other related duties as may be assigned.
Education
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with four (4) years of relevant professional experience or
- University degree from an accredited academic institution, with six (6) years relevant professional experience.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience
- 6 years of experience as a Database administrator or similar role.
- Excellent understanding of MS SQL database systems and architectures.
- Extensive years of experience of managing disconnected databases.
- Extensive years of experience in reporting services, data warehousing or data analytics and visualization.
- Experience in project management.
- Experience in cloud databases management (Azure, AWS).
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional
- backgrounds.
- In depth knowledge of MS-SQL and Azure database management, backup procedures and tuning techniques.
- In depth knowledge of T-SQL and ETL processes.
- Good understanding of database replication processes.
Languages
For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is desirable.
