Context

Under the general supervision of the National Central Accounting Officer and the direct supervision of the CAS- Claims Processing Supervisor, the successful candidate is responsible for Travel Claims Processing and other functions.

Core Functions / Responsibilities

Travel Claims Processing

  • Review and analyze travel expense claim of Headquarters (HQ) staff to verify the validity and accuracy of claim in accordance with IOM Travel Rules and Regulations.
  • Verify the validity and accuracy of travel claim computation in accordance with IOM Travel Rules and Regulations.
  • Ensure the accuracy and correctness of entries posted in SAP/Processes and Resources Integrated Systems Management (PRISM) – Finance (FI) from travel module.
  • Clarify queries from claimants and others pertaining to the settlement of travel claims.
  • Monitor and follow-up timely submission of travel expense claims and liquidation of advances from HQ staff.
  • Record year-end accrual of outstanding HQ travel expense claims.
  • Ensure proper reclassification entries on the correct accounts and projects.
  • Advise offices regarding interpretation of the travel regulation, expense claim computations and assist users for some travel module queries.
  • Keep abreast of revisions and developments in Travel Rules and Regulations and travel module.
  • Ensure travel expense claim files are secured and organized in terms of filing.
  • Manage CAS – Travel Claims mailbox.

Perform other accounting functions as may be required.

Education

  • University degree in Finance, Accounting or relevant field from an accredited academic institution, with two years of relevant professional experience, preferably in the field of accounting or finance, audit experience would be an advantage; or
  • Completed High School Degree from an accredited academic institution, with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Experience in the field of accounting, finance, budgeting or auditing.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting systems and/or SAP plus generally accepted accounting principles, business risk controls, and audit/review procedures. 
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in MS Office applications; knowledge of other IT packages and their implementation is an advantage.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills; capable of designing, reviewing and revising business processes to achieve efficiency.

Languages

For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is desirable.
