Context

Under the supervision of the National MHI Data Analytics Officer, in close coordination with the Migration Health Informatics Manager, as a member of the MHI team, and in close collaboration with the Global Migration Health Research & Epidemiology Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the health data generated through various MHD programmes activities and will support MHD in monitoring and improving data quality and statistical reports on health assessments and status of refugees and other migrant groups.

Core Functions / Responsibilities

MHD programmatic health data quality assurance

  • Closely coordinate with the Data Validation Assistants, Data Quality and Reporting Associate, Senior Statistical Assistant, and MHI Data Analytics Officer the conduct, reporting, and documentation of regular and adhoc data quality and validation activities and products. 
  • Participate in the establishment and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOP) for data collection, management and analysis related to the medical components of various MHD database -- MiMOSA, UKTB, inbound health assessment programmes (iHAP), LIMS -- and data collection and management systems linked to other MHD programmes.
  • Review existing and provide suggestions for new and more sophisticated data validation procedures and algorithm that help detect data errors and incompleteness and automate and facilitate correction activities.
  • Make use of more advanced technological and statistical methods for data validation, data quality
    assessment and data reporting using STATA, Power BI or other similar software packages.
  • Facilitate timely collection of data from the missions and work with data focal points in fiel missions and regions to improve and maintain data quality.
  • Monitor and document the status of data validation activities for both regular and adhoc reporting.
  • Participate in the design of new data collection systems and data transfer systems between IOM and partner stakeholders of different destination countries.

MHD medical data analysis and reporting

  • Conduct statistical analysis of medical conditions found during pre-screening of migrant populations and other health aspects to produce reports for internal and external use.
  • Coordinate with the MHI Data Analytics Officer, and SQL Database and Power BI Analyst to support development and maintenance of regular and adhoc reports and data analysis.
  • Review and check content of reports and other dashboards for correctness and plausibility of represented data in terms of summary statistics and indicators. 
  • Assist the Global Migration Health Research & Epidemiology Coordinator in secondary data analysis and interpretation for scientific research purposes and MHD publications on the health status refugee populations.
  • Assist in integrating statistical data into the MHD data repository and data warehouse.

MHI support tasks

  • Assist in development and management of data warehouse and indicators for validation and statistical reporting
  • Support development and maintenance of business intelligence tools using MS Power BI or other similar software to design data models, measures/indicators, reports or dashboards
  • Support training of other MHI staff on validation and reporting tools
  • Take part in training of field staff in data collection, management and analysis
  • Prepare presentations and draft documents on migration health topics when needed.

Perform any other duties as may be assigned and agreed by the staff and supervisors.

Education

  • Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, health sciences, statistics or social sciences or a related field from an accredited academic institution;
  • University degree in the above fields with two (2)  years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Proven experience in data quality monitoring and management.
  • Experience with management and processing of large and complex databases.
  • Use of statistical software like Stata, MS SQL, Power BI, Tableau or other similar packages.
  • Conduct and participation in health or medical research.
  • Experience in training and supervising staff working on data management, data quality assessment and data reporting.
  • Work experience with government and international health agencies.
  • Experience in Azure Synapse Analytics, PBI workspace development and management an advantage.
  • Proven knowledge in the advanced use of STATA, EPI INFO, R, SPSS, R, Python, Jupyter, and/or SAS for data validation and analysis
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access and Power Point
  • Knowledge of MS SQL data query or ETL processes and Power BI data modelling and DAX data analytics function will be an advantage
  • Manipulation of data in various file formats, reporting from complex databases, knowledge of health indicators, in-depth understanding of statistical principles necessary for data analysis (descriptive, inferential, univariate and multivariate analysis).

Languages

For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is desirable.
