Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. Context

The Online Communications Unit (OCU) of IOM is comprised of experienced communications professionals based in Manila as well as various regional offices. The team provides advice and support on media and public information issues to IOM Headquarters and missions worldwide. It is responsible for media relations as well as producing a variety of other public information materials, including official statements to mark special events, information folders, fact sheets and press briefing notes on specific IOM activities for online communications outlets. 

Under the direct supervision of the Web Production Supervisor, the successful candidate will oversee the overall feel, look, and functionality of IOM websites from the user's perspective, working with a team of graphics designers, UI/UX, and other relevant project staff. Ensure that the product is not just aesthetically pleasing but also user-friendly, efficient and complies with IOM requirements. 

Core Functions / Responsibilities


    • Provide ownership on website design and user experience for websites managed by OCU.  The designs should follow IOM's branding guidelines.

    • Identify design problems and devise smart and intuitive solutions.

    • Work closely with project managers, developers to translate concepts, define interface and user requirements that lead to intuitive user experiences.

    • Make design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features.

    • Provide design support during development and execution; assist with QA to ensure designs are implemented accurately and with the highest standard

    • Ensure designs meet UX/UI usability standards of the industry.

    • Conduct a thorough review of the user experience and user interface (UI/UX) design of the IOM websites and make recommendations for improvements.

    • Facilitate user testing and gather feedback on proposed improvements. Liaise with all relevant stakeholders to understand and identify corresponding UI/UX requirements of assigned projects.

    • Develop wireframes and mockups to illustrate proposed improvements based on user feedback.

    • Create and maintain an institutional web design system according to the IOM brand guidelines, best practices and agreed changes.

    • Provide general web design support and perform UI/UX and design quality assurance for new and existing websites.

    • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Graphical/Digital Design or other related field from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant work experience;
  • Certification as User Interface Designer is desirable.
  • Industry certifications will be considered an advantage.  
     

Experience

  • Must have at least three years of experience in UI/UX design in software development.  
  • Ability to provide or submit UX/UI design portfolio samples is required.
  • Extensive experience in using UX/UI design best practices to design solutions, and a deep understanding of web and mobile design.
  • Expertise in UX/UI software design tools such as Figma, InVision, Adobe Creative Suites (Illustrator) and the like is a must. 
  • Experience with design documentation, creation of mock-ups, requirements gathering and client interaction.
  • A solid grasp of user cantered design and testing methodologies, subsystems and usability and accessibility concerns.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring junior designers.
  • Ability to work independently without minimum supervision.
  • Excellent problem solving, and design skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with business users and IT developers and ability to effectively communicate ideas.
     

Languages

For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is desirable.
