There are several active regional mechanisms on migration in Mesoamerica and Central America including both Inter-State Consultation Mechanisms on Migration (ISCMs), notably the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM), and the Central American Commission of Migration Directors (OCAM). Each of these mechanisms has undertaken important sub-regional commitments on various aspects of migration governance. Despite efforts, these ISCMs and regional initiatives have not always been able to successfully align and coordinate their activities, leading to inefficiency, duplication and lack of communication. These challenges call for improved dialogue, knowledge exchange and coordination among key regional actors. This project, with the support of several IOM Member States, the RCM, Chair and Secretariat, will aim to contribute to improve collaboration among Member States in Mesoamerica and the Dominican Republic implementing activities under relevant mechanisms to promote and facilitate safe, orderly and regular migration in the region. This will help governments, donors, and development banks channel institutional resources more effectively, and contribute to overall greater coordination on migration governance. The main outputs of this project will include a regional compendium of key actors on migration, relevant regional plans, priorities, and the creation of a virtual platform that promotes information exchange, learning, and collaboration in the region.
