On 3 September 2024, the Vanuatu Ministry of Internal Affairs (MoIA) launched Vanuatu's first National Action Plan (NAP) to Combat Trafficking in Persons 2024-2028 which encompasses a whole-of-Government and whole-of-society approach with a comprehensive framework and measures aimed at combatting trafficking in persons and safeguarding vulnerable individuals at risk of exploitation.
This project aims to contribute to strengthening Vanuatu's response to counter trafficking in persons through supporting the implementation of the National Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Persons 2024-2028 (Objective) by supporting the Government to adopt new mechanisms on trafficking in persons with whole-of-government, whole-of-society and gender-sensitive approaches (Outcome). This will be achieved by developing a comprehensive whole-of-government, whole-of-society National Communication Strategy (Output 1.1) and disseminating of public awareness raising message on trafficking in persons (Output 1.2). The project will also establish a dedicated counter-trafficking in persons unit (Output 1.3) and finally, enhance capacity on identification and protection of victims of trafficking in persons by supporting the development of Standard Operating Procedures and providing government and non-government stakeholders with training on trafficking in persons with victim-centred, trauma-informed, gender-sensitive and rights-based approaches (Output 1.4).
