Over the last decade, the relationship between Migration, Environment, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction (MECR) has gained visibility on the global policy agenda. However, in Chad, despite a growing number of people across the country being forced to move in the context of climate change, environmental degradation and disasters, limited data is currently available on the MECR nexus. The currently available data only paints a partial picture of the events and processes that lead to displacement and is insufficient to adequately inform the series of political and institutional reforms underway by the transitional Government of Chad, namely the updated National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and Long-Term Strategy (LTS). In light of the above, the objective of this project is to contribute to improved responses to the adverse effects of climate change, environmental degradation and disasters on human mobility in Chad. The project will seek to do so by supporting the Ministry of the Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development to integrate gender-sensitive MECR considerations into the new National Adaptation Plan and Long-Term Strategy (Outcome 1) by making available to government partners a comprehensive and gender-sensitive scoping study on the MECR nexus in Chad (Output 1.1) and strengthening the knowledge of key national stakeholders, media representatives, NGOs and CSOs on the MECR nexus through a series of tailored trainings (Output 1.2). Overall, this will establish an evidence base to inform future MECR gender-sensitive research practice and policy formulations, as well as promote a shared understanding on the topic among society.
