This project supports the implementation of the “Border Trade and Mobility Facilitation Joint Action Plan for the Moyale Border Post” developed and endorsed by the Government of Kenya and the Government of Ethiopia, under the umbrella of COMESA. The project focuses on the facilitation of small-scale cross-border trade, particularly ensuring that the development and implementation of these procedures are gender mainstreamed and vulnerability-sensitive. This project assists the relevant governments in carrying out key priority activities of the Action Plan by providing participatory capacity development assistance to Government officials, small-scale traders and the Moyale community on both sides of the border. The activities proposed in this project have been designed to support the realization of seven outputs. These outputs, in turn, will lead to the achievements of the following three desired project outcomes: 1. Kenyan and Ethiopian border officials, as well as community members and small-scale traders, make trade and mobility processes more efficient at Moyale; 2. Kenyan and Ethiopian border officials demonstrate increased capacity to efficiently manage issues related to small scale trade and human mobility at Moyale; and 3. Women and other vulnerable groups at the Moyale OSBP face a reduced number of instances of harassment and corruption. Ultimately, these Outcomes will contribute to enhanced small-scale cross-border trade and mobility at the Kenya-Ethiopia border overall.
