Research that identifies the health needs of individuals trafficked in the Mekong region is urgently needed to inform local and regional policies and health interventions that can ensure trafficked persons have the greatest chance of regaining their health and well-being. This project will adapt the methodology used for the study Stolen Smiles (the physical and psychological health consequences of women and adolescents trafficked in Europe) to the Greater Mekong Sub-Region (GMS). A cross-sectional, multi-site survey of trafficked men, women and adolescents receiving assistance after a trafficking experience will be carried out to identify the health risks and care needs of trafficked persons in the GMS. The study results and recommendations will serve as vital information for the development of policies, strategies for health service provision, and individualized care of trafficked persons in the GMS.
