The overall objective of this initiative is to strengthen the capacity of the Immigration Department for the enhancement of migration management in Dominica, by increasing the reliability and security of immigration information. This project was developed in response to a request for technical assistance made to IOM by the Government of Dominica (GoD). The Immigration Department of the Ministry of Justice, Immigration and National Security utilizes a traditional system of manual processes to collect and retrieve data on exits and entries. This poses a challenge for the department for conducting cross checks and analyzing trends of movement by migrants to Dominica. The Immigration Department recognizes the need for a robust digitized immigration data system that can combine visa issue data, arrivals and departure data, enforcement and information on criminal data that can inform immigration intelligence of cross checks and analysis of movement in and out of Dominica. It will require both (human and technical) resources including the expertise in data input and storage to improve digitization of records. This initiative will enhance migration management in Dominica and allow for training of immigration officials which will improve their competencies for the use of the application. Training will also be provided on examination procedures and document integrity verification to enable the relevant government officials to initiate and sustain the service they provide.
