The project’s overall objective is to contribute to the successful implementation of Serbia’s new National Strategy to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings (2013 – 2018), in order to respond to current counter trafficking challenges in Serbia and to strengthen coordination mechanisms at the local level. The project aims to achieve this through the:
1) Strengthening of national capacities to improve formalized coordination with the local level structures;
2) Creation of a sustainable framework for the systematic prevention of trafficking in human beings at the local level (Local Coordination Teams).
3) Development of operational guidance for the local AHT coordination teams.
The project will support the creation of Local Coordination Teams in 10 municipalities throughout Serbia where local representatives of the police, social welfare, youth offices, judiciary, and NGOs will participate. The Local Coordination Teams will be established from the staff from existing structures, that are embedded in the system already, and who are tasked in accordance with the relevant national laws with counter trafficking work in their own sphere. The Local Coordinator will be appointed by the municipal authorities. These team will add to the multi-sector approach needed for countering trafficking.
