In 2017, there were 4.7 million people visiting Cuba and close to 10 million border transactions. In this regard, the Government of Cuba expressed the need to strengthen its capacities in order to manage migration more effectively and address the current and future border management challenges. The objective of this project is to support immigration practitioners in carrying out their tasks and duties in an efficient way, with regards to border procedures, passport examination, and detection of fraud and organised crimes such as trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants. This objective will be achieved through the following products: 1) Training of border officials who have a direct role in movement processing and the management and operations of a border check point; 2) Patterns of smuggling and trafficking in persons identified; 3) Technical equipment provided; 4) Improved data collection methods and therefore, increased effectiveness in the detection of fraud, organized crimes and falsification of documents; 5) Technical and information exchanges on migration issues, with countries of the Latin America and the Caribbean region.
