Benefiting Member States
Democratic Republic of the Congo
The objective of the project is to strengthen the migration management capacities of the Government of the Congo by upgrading the current border management infrastructure. A border management information system (BMIS) is a key element for the efficient management of cross-border movement of people while also preventing, controlling and responding to potential cross-border threats. It allows for the systematic collection of migration data and in-depth analysis of migration flows at airports and border crossing points, enabling real-time checks and allowing for immediate decision making. The Congo is using the old version of the IOM developed BMIS at Brazzaville Maya-Maya airport. The modernization of the old system is required to ensure the full operability of the upgraded system, the Migration Information and Data Analysis System (MIDAS) and its interoperability with international alert lists and additional modules, thus improves the management of migration in the Congo.
