The outbreak of COVID-19 in Southern Africa has brought into sharp focus the need to strengthen International Health Regulation (IHR) 2005 core capacities within the context of integrated/coordinated border management (IBM/CBM) approaches. The objective of this project is to strengthen border management in Malawi and Mozambique through an integrated approach which incorporates human mobility and health security considerations. The proposed Outcome of the project is that Government officials, including Immigration and Health policymakers, pilot a unified CBM/IBM approach which includes human mobility and health security aspects and is in line with the International Health Regulations (IHR). This will be achieved through the successful completion of four Outputs: National Policy and Legal Assessments (1.1); Port of Entry Infrastructural Assessments (1.2); the development of National CBM/IBM blueprints (1.3); and a blueprint implementation pilot at a POE along the border of Malawi and Mozambique (1.4).
