In Belarus, there is a recognized need to improve the coverage of migration in reporting, and in turn better aligning with global frameworks such as the Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, certain challenges hinder progress in this regard. The primary challenge lies in limited awareness among national stakeholders regarding the interconnectedness between migration and development. Additionally, measuring specific migration-related SDG targets, including target 10.7, presents complexities that must be overcome. These challenges can be effectively addressed through collaborative efforts. With this in mind, the project envisions to contribute to efforts by the government of Belarus to implement, monitor, evaluate and report on progress made towards meeting the objectives of migration-related SDGs. A key strategy employed for this purpose will be the utilization of IOM’s Migration Governance Indicators (MGI) and the production of an MGI Report, which will serve as a valuable tool for assessing Belarus' progress in meeting migration-related SDG targets, while also providing for a sound baseline for future policy-making. A second, crucial aspect of the project will involve delivering capacity development and facilitating dialogue among relevant state institutions, ministries, UN agencies, civil society organizations (CSOs), and other stakeholders, to enhance their common understanding of the complex relationship between migration and development, also in light of the SDGs. Through these activities, stakeholders will receive comprehensive support in SDG reporting, including on Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs).
