Fiji
Fiji is a relatively high mobility country, having the second highest number of immigrants in the Pacific. The Fiji Department of Immigration (DoI) is the main government agency responsible for overseeing immigration and border management efforts in the country. The objective of the project is to contribute to the Government of Fiji achieving strengthened migration governance through enhancing border security and travel facilitation, which aligns with targets under Fiji’s 5-year National Development Plan. The proposed project will provide technical support, including capacity development and training on process improvement, policy development, data sharing, administrative streamlining, and mentoring. It will also assist the DoI in reviewing its response to the COVID-19 pandemic and identifying opportunities for improvements and better coordination with other government entities such as the Ministry of Health and Medical Services. Through this technical support, the project aims to increase Fiji’s capacity to effectively manage its borders while improving national security and economic opportunities for the country.
