Papua New Guinea
The detection of fraudulent travel documents at entry and exit points is fundamental for the protection of countries against cross-border crimes connected to irregular migration. This project will support the Government of Papua New Guinea to strengthen border management responses by enhancing capacities of border officials on document verification and detection of document and identity frauds.
IOM will work directly with government counterparts in the Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) to deploy the IOM-developed secondary inspection tool Verifier Travel Document & Bearer (TD&B) at two PNG's international border points, namely Port Moresby, Lae and Wutung (Outcome 1). To ensure effectively deployment and usage of the tools, IOM will work with ICA to assess the current document verification capacities at these border points (Output 1.1), repair and install the hardware components (Output 1.2), and build the skills, knowledge and capacity of PNG border officials on the inspection and detection of fraudulent travel documents and identity fraud to ensure the correct usage and maintenance of the workstations (Output 1.3).
