Benefiting Member States
Islamic Republic of Iran
The main objective of this project is to contribute to strengthened border and migration management in the Islamic Republic of Iran (IR Iran). This will be done by capacitating relevant border authorities on how to best facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods while also maintaining secure borders, as well as increasing Iranian border officials’ capacities to effectively tackle the COVID-19 pandemic while managing cross-border movements.
The project will contribute towards strengthened border management in the IR Iran through active engagement with Iranian border management decision makers and senior officials, beginning with a high-level consultation meeting. Then, a tailor-made curriculum to train border management officials will be prepared and validated together with the Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants Affairs (BAFIA) and the Ministry of Interior (MOI) to be used in training of trainers sessions. To ensure sustainability of the project, IOM will also arrange for the training of trainers (ToT) session to be cascaded downward to other officials, ensuring the knowledge will be transferred domestically after the conclusion of the project. To reinforce the durability of such trainings, IOM will also translate pertinent training into Persian and will upload it on IOM e-Campus platform so that related border officials can benefit from it free of charge. To help BAFIA and MOI to translate the content of trainings into action, IOM will help them to develop related SOPs which will be validated trilaterally by MOI, IOM and BAFIA.
