The Government of the Dominican Republic requested IOM’s support for the project: Prevention of Trafficking in Women for Sexual Exploitation from the Dominican Republic.
This project for combating trafficking intended to complement recently received support from the United States for the IOM CIPROM (International Committee for the Protection of Migrant Women) counter-trafficking programme. Within that programme, activities now focus on training for technical personnel and awareness-raising in schools and neighbourhoods.
The 1035 Facility contribution has completed the overall approach and set the stage for further project actions by IOM and the Secretariat for Women's Affairs, by focusing on preparation of educational materials and implementation of an information campaign.
Actions within this counter-trafficking programme were expected to also lead to the identification of further cooperative activities in this and related areas.
