This project aims to contribute to wider efforts to meet the challenges posed by climate change on vulnerable populations and support the integration of migration and human security issues into policy development and planning.
Focusing specifically on communities living in low elevation areas southeast of Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast, a Government-identified priority area, the project priorities and specific focus will be developed during an inception workshop composed of key stakeholders to ensure relevance to national priorities and identify potential synergies with existing environmental and human security initiatives. IOM, in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental partners, will conduct a number of specific rapid assessments to better understand the linkages between the expected impacts of sea-level rise and migration internally and internationally, and develop and implement pilot initiatives to test possible practical responses. The findings of these assessments and pilot initiatives will be shared with Government and other key stakeholders to support the development of an appropriate strategy including practical responses to potential migration related to the expected sea-level rise.
