The project aims to strengthen the capacity of MERCOSUR governments to facilitate orderly, regular and responsible migration and mobility in South America amid and after the COVID- 19 pandemic. This will be achieved by providing MERCOSUR government officials with accessible, reliable and timely information on human mobility restrictions, permissions, health and safety measures for their use in drafting migration policy and coordinating additional measures and interventions in the region. In particular, the project will develop and launch a “Sudamerica Abierta” platform and mobile application, which will contain updated information on human mobility restrictions, health and safety measures in all MERCOSUR State Parties and Associated States to facilitate intraregional human mobility. The project will also draft and validate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure the governments capacity to collect information and maintain the platform long-term. The project will also train key government officials in each participating country on the use of the platform and develop a communication campaign in Spanish, Portuguese and English and carry out a final closing event to promote the platform and mobile phone application amongst key regional stakeholders, as well as migrants, potential donors and the general public.
