At the request of the Government of Maldives (GoM), the proposed project pursues the objective of contributing to the promotion of migrants right to health through technical assistance to develop a migration health policy. The project will develop a national migration health policy framework and enhanced capacity of the technical committee on migrant health. Beyond the project duration, the technical committee will take leadership in utilizing this framework as a foundation to establish the legal basis to ensure the rights of migrants to healthcare. Enhanced sensitization for high level government officials and other stakeholders on the health rights of migrants will be important to operationalize the policy once developed. The national migration health coordination mechanism will serve as a structure to advocate for the implementation of the policy framework and development of a migrant health policy in Maldives.
