This project seeks to explore, at a strategic and operational level, the nexus between migration governance and sustainable urban development in the city of Antananarivo, Madagascar. IOM will support the mainstreaming of migration into sustainable and inclusive urban development planning for the city of Antananarivo, Madagascar. IOM, in close coordination with the municipal authorities and other stakeholders will develop the evidence base on the internal migration trends in relation with urbanization trends in the greater Antananarivo area. Based on that evidence it will then create the development of a strategic vision to manage migration and its effects on urbanization and will pilot operational responses that support cohesion-building and inclusion of migrants in their host communities. At the culmination of the project, a regional conference will be organised to share the results of the pilot initiative to stimulate regional and international dialogue and the building of new partnerships and interventions in these topics.
