While many thousands of Tajik citizens are migrating abroad in search of employment, a rapidly growing community of foreign migrants is now present throughout Tajikistan. In particular, it is estimated that there are 82,000 Chinese migrants in Tajikistan at the moment and the country is facing a number of challenges in terms of managing the health related impacts of Chinese labour migration.
This project aims to:
1. Create a knowledge base to better understand Chinese labour migrants’ health status, needs and access to the health care facilities in Tajikistan through research carried out during the project period.
2. Strengthen the capacity of the Government of Tajikistan and health care providers to respond to the health needs of Chinese migrant workers.
3. Promote Chinese migrants’ ‘Right to Health’ while in Tajikistan through piloting a model to improve their access to health care facilities and formulate an advocacy campaign.
