Recognizing the importance of migration health, the Ministry of Health and Sports in Myanmar has taken steps towards promoting and addressing this topic on the agenda.
A blueprint for the establishment of a Migration Health Unit within the Ministry of Health and Sports has therefore been developed. This proposed unit, which follows best-practice examples set by other countries such as Thailand, Sri Lanka and the Philippines, would be responsible for promoting inclusive migrant policies as well as acting as a focal point for coordination with other relevant ministries and partners.
Project outputs that will contribute towards this objective include:
- The establishment and operationalization of the Migration Health Unit within the Ministry of Health;
- Technical and operational support for national, regional and global coordination and collaboration on critical migration health initiatives;
- Identification and development of key migration health policy recommendations.
