This project aims to enhance the protection of stranded migrants in the ECOWAS region by filling the existing knowledge gap and promoting a better understanding of their profiles, and their protection and assistance needs.
The study will explore national responses and available services to stranded migrants. The study will also elaborate recommendations to fill some of the protection gaps existing at the national level, its’ results and recommendations will be shared with concerned ministries of Niger and Togo to help sensitize government officials on the challenges faced by stranded migrants in their territory. Government officials will validate the findings and recommendations of the study, as part of an action plan for the enhancement of national measures. The “Regional Working Group on Mixed Migration in West Africa”’, established after the 2008 Dakar conference on ‘Refugee Protection and International Migration’, will represent the institutional framework for this project and advocate for the integration of the recommendations into national policies.
