Benefiting Member States
Tuvalu Vanuatu
With the anticipated increased demand for migrant labour from Pacific Island countries (PICs), the number of people from Tuvalu and Vanuatu migrating for work is expected to increase. The key challenge facing these governments concerns capacity to meet the expanding demand for labour overseas, whilst having policy and mechanisms in place to better regulate outwards labour mobility and providing adequate support to migrant workers. This project aims to contribute to enhanced migration management in Tuvalu and Vanuatu by strengthening circular labour mobility processes through enhanced collaboration, processes and legislation.
To achieve this, support will be provided to enable the Governments of Tuvalu and Vanuatu to take steps to strengthen labour migration management (Outcome) through a series of recommendations for policy and programming made available based on global best practices (Output 1.1), by enhancing the knowledge, skills and tools available to officials in Vanuatu to streamline labour mobility processes (Output 1.2) and by enhancing technical capacities and providing policy recommendations for the Government of Tuvalu (Outputs 1.3 and 1.4). This project will help both governments to conform more closely to international standards in their national practices, but also enable the countries to exchange knowledge and best practices on labour migration governance with other countries through existing regional forums.
