Senegal
The semi-arid Sahelian region of Saint-Louis in North Senegal faces severe challenges such as aridity, poor soil and coastal erosion, intensifying vulnerabilities to environmental changes. Combined with rapid sea level rise and economic downturns in crucial sectors such as agriculture, Senegal is facing an increase in unemployment and emigration.
In light of this situation, the objective of the project is to contribute to the Government of Senegal’s efforts to mainstream the migration, environment and climate change (MECC) nexus into policy to promote sustainable development. To do so, the project will encourage national and local governments to support gender-sensitive green economic activities and opportunities in the Saint-Louis region (Outcome 1) by strengthening the knowledge of national and local government representatives on the MECC nexus (Output 1.1) and by developing a gender-sensitive assessment of green economic activities and opportunities in the Saint-Louis region, to be made available to local authorities and other stakeholders (Output 1.2). These efforts will enable the Senegalese government to make evidence-based decisions and form strategic partnerships to support green economic initiatives in the Saint Louis region.
