Mali has long, porous borders with limited resources to ensure border security and monitor migratory flows. As a result, transnational criminal and terrorist networks operate almost unfettered, with high levels of smuggling of migrants and trafficking in human beings. Moreover, migratory routes are constantly changing, sometime passing through remote areas where there are no border posts. To complement fixed border posts, a mobile border management solution is necessary to enhance the capacity of law enforcement authorities to monitor migration and ensure security at borders. The initiative aims to provide flexibility and reactivity by handing over a Mobile Border Post (MBP) to the Malian border police and increasing knowledge of police agents on Migration Information and Data Analysis System (MIDAS), border management, border security and crosscutting themes such as gender and human rights. By providing a mobile border management solution, and enhancing the capacity of law enforcement authorities, the project will contribute to improving the efficiency of border and migration management and Improve the security at the borders of Mali.
