Guyana
With globally growing numbers of people on the move, governments of countries of origin have recognized the value diaspora populations bring to development efforts including their potential to making contributions. The Government of Guyana recognizes the dynamism among youth in its diaspora and their potential to transfer their skills and knowledge for development in Guyana. Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government has proposed this project as an opportunity to bridge the gaps between Guyanese diaspora youth in North America, the United Kingdom and other jurisdictions. The overall objective of the project is to strengthen the current government's involvement with the Guyanese diaspora, for the diaspora's increased commitment and engagement with its country of origin for social and economic development, through the implementation of a government-led, diaspora youth volunteer programme in Guyana.
