IOM aims to manage two initiatives, which are envisaged as being very useful for Member States that are working on Identity and Travel Document Management and in Biometrics. The main activities of the project include:
1. IOM will support the publication and translation of a new resource manual, The Document Developers Toolkit, which provides up to date technical and managerial guidance on the process of developing new identity documents and travel documents. The manual will initially be produced in Arabic, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
2. IOM will collaborate with and support the efforts of a distance learning programme, associated with the State University of New York, to prepare a web or CD-based training on biometrics. This training would be designed for non-specialists, taking the subject area from the introductory through to a mid-level of technical content. This is also to be presented in Arabic, French, Russian and Spanish.
3. Dissemination activities to all interested IOM Member States will be included.
