Jordan, one of the most water-stressed countries in the world, is facing a wide range of challenges related to the environment, climate change and migration nexus. In its most recent report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) highlighted adaptive measures as a key tool in reducing vulnerability to climate change and strengthening community resilience. This project aims to contribute to strengthening environment and climate change adaptation efforts in Jordan, aligned with the principle of leaving no one behind. The project is intended to provide a foundation and direction for future research and interventions addressing environment and climate change adaptation in Jordan such as through early warning systems and response. This will be achieved through one outcome, namely, (1) Central and local government entities use evidence to inform future gender-sensitive research practice and policy formulations on climate change adaptation as well as measures to strengthen community resilience, with a particular focus on vulnerable groups. This outcome will be reached through two outputs, as follows: (1.1) The Ministry of Environment has access to a comprehensive scoping study of existing research on climate change adaptation in Jordan and similar contexts, accounting for the vulnerability profiles, roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders, and (1.2) Local level policymakers, community leaders and members of vulnerable communities in the selected governorates have improved knowledge and awareness on evidence-based and gender sensitive climate adaptation measures within their respective mandates.
