The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is a large country, spanning across 2,345,409 km2 and sharing borders with nine countries. Improving border management strategies is therefore a priority for the government. In addition, the 2015 administrative division led to the establishment of new autonomous provinces, requiring an analysis of the migration management framework as well as the infrastructure, equipment, and capacity needs at the provincial level. The Kongo Central Province, bordering the Republic of Angola and the Republic of the Congo, was identified as a priority by the General Directorate for Migration (DGM) due to the extent of migratory flows in this area. In light of the above, this project aims to contribute to the development of effective border management strategies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This will be achieved through two outputs, namely: 1) The migration management framework at the national level is assessed in a gender-sensitive manner, and an action plan is made available to key stakeholders and partners; 2) The infrastructure, equipment and capacity needs of the DGM as well as border management challenges are identified in the Province of Kongo Central.
