Benefiting Member States
United Republic of Tanzania
The objective of this project is to support the National Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Strategy of the United Republic of Tanzania through community-based disaster risk management (CBDRM). The project empowers communities and government ministries, departments and agencies in taking actions and effective measures in DRR and management resulting in the saving of lives, protection of the environment and the economy, and national resilience. The project includes capacity-building activities, such as a transborder tabletop exercise on response to disaster risk; training of trainers on mental health and psychosocial support provision in disasters; a mentorship programme to disaster response volunteers in varying communities while integrating gender, vulnerable groups’ needs and cultural diversity into DRR; convening the DRR coordination working groups; and awareness-raising sessions on CBDRM to communities at risk in the United Republic of Tanzania.
