This project intends to promote the integration of migration into the national adaptation strategies by enhancing knowledge of the relationship between climate change, environment and migration. The proposed project aims to reach this goal by:
• Conducting a comprehensive review of existing literature, on-going initiatives and policy framework relating to climate change and migration in Cambodia;
• Generating empirical data from two pilot regions to provide evidence on the nexus of environment, climate change and migration;
• Enhancing political awareness of issues relating to environment, climate change and migration through a national dissemination meeting.
Upon project completion, a country report will be produced and disseminated amongst key stakeholders. The report will be the first comprehensive assessment of the interactions between climate change, environmental degradation and migration in Cambodia and will serve as a reference tool for development practitioners, government agencies, NGOs and for bilateral cooperation. Secondly, a draft national strategy aimed at filling the gaps identified in existing policies and institutional frameworks and to develop knowledge on how migration can act as a positive livelihood and adaptation strategy, will be developed and discussed.
