While in Central Asia Turkmenistan is considered a migrant source country, nowadays it has become one of the destination countries for migrant workers from China, Turkey, Philippines, Indonesia and others mainly due to the growth of the construction sector. In 2013, it was reported by Turkish officials that close to 15,000 Turkish migrant workers employed in Turkmenistan on the construction sites. While the State Migration Services of Turkmenistan takes a leading role in the country with regard to managing the entry and exit of migrant workers, there is a need to strengthen and reinforce the knowledge on how to ensure access to legal, social and health services for migrant workers and members of their families.
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to comprehensive understanding and knowledge of the Government of Turkmenistan on the linkages between migration management and health.
The main outputs will be: (a) increased knowledge and skills of the national counterparts on international migration and health; and (b) enforced capacity of the national counterparts on comprehensive approach to manage migration and health through learning good practices and experience of the other countries.
