Workshop on Migration Management for Government Officials and Law Enforcement Officers, Republic of Chad, 01-02 October 2013
Under the framework of the project “Preliminary Study on Migration Phenomenon in Chad” funded by the IOM Development Fund (IDF), a two-day workshop for government officials and law enforcement officers has been organized in N’Djamena from 01 to 02 October 2013.
The objectives of the workshop were to:
- Train the government officials and law enforcement officers on Basic Principles of Migration Management and
- Share with the government officials and law enforcement officers the results of the “Preliminary Study on Migration Phenomenon in Chad” as a tool for planning and addressing migration concerns in the country.
Ten participants from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior, the National Commission for Refugees and Returnees, the National Police Force, National Immigration Force, National Gendarmerie Force, and Border Control Mixed Force officers have successfully attended the workshop.
The workshop methodology included:
- PowerPoint presentations on general principles and examples of practical situations with the active participation of the attendees.
- A case study on the difference between Migrant Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons.
- Group exercises to ensure that participants retain key messages from the workshop.
At the end of the workshop, participants formulated recommendations that were addressed to the Government and the International Community (see related link).
The workshop was facilitated by: Ms. Laura Palatini, Project Officer from IOM Mauritania; Mr. Saloum Banga, National Consultant and Mr. Ngomassinan Sou Tokoyoum, First Deputy Prosecutor of the Republic of Chad.
The Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Interior and IOM Chief of Mission participated in the closing ceremony of the workshop.
