Winners of PLURAL + Video Competition on Migration, Identity and Diversity to be Announced on International Migrants Day
Coinciding with International Migrants Day on 18 December, the
winners of the PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival will be announced at an
awards ceremony in New York City.
PLURAL+ invited youth worldwide to submit short videos sharing
their thoughts, experiences, opinions, questions and suggestions on
issues surrounding migration, identity and diversity. Three winners
from different categories have been chosen from the 150 videos
submitted from 36 countries, highlighting the importance of social
debates on globalization and cross-cultural dialogue.
An initiative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations and IOM,
PLURAL+ was organized in collaboration with 18 international
partners, including the Anna Lindh Foundation, the Royal Film
Commission of Jordan, Chinh India, UNESCOCat, Red Unial, COPEAM,
BaKaFORUM, Roots&Routes, NoGhetto, Al Jadeed Television and
UNICEF.
The PLURAL+ International Jury, which includes youth
representatives, film critics and film industry professionals such
as acclaimed Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami and the director of
the New York Film Festival, Richard Pena, has selected the winners
who will travel to New York to accept their award and participate
in a number of youth media and migration themed activities.
In addition, the PLURAL+ partner organizations will announce a
wide range of exciting prizes to other young finalists. The
winning videos will be compiled into a PLURAL+ DVD which will be
shown at various festivals and broadcast channels throughout
2010.
The awards ceremony will take place on Friday 18 December at
1800 local time at the Paley Center for Media, 25 West 52 Street,
