Port Vila – Port Vila is hosting as from 11 July 2018, an eight-day "Training of Trainers" on Passport Examination Procedures facilitated by IOM’s Senior Immigration and Border Management Specialist for Asia and the Pacific, Donato Colucci.

At the official opening, Jeffery Markson, Acting Director of the Vanuatu Immigration Services (VIS) emphasised that the Government of Vanuatu and the people of Vanuatu will highly benefit from such capacity building approaches, especially in view of the restructuring of Vanuatu’s border management strategy jointly undertaken by VIS and the Department of Customs and Inland Revenue (DCIR).

In pursuit of its two-fold objectives of fortifying the bridge between the two agencies, as well as positively impacting on knowledge and skills, this Migration and Border Capability Improvement Programme (MBCIP) endeavour plays a key role in establishing a competent core team of national trainers to fulfill the Government's objective of building an efficient border management structure.

Once again, the MBCIP sustains an ‘all of Vanuatu’ approach, by supporting the two agencies in teaming up to build their capacities jointly and by bringing together border control officers from all major border cross points of Vanuatu, from the islands of Efate, Espiritu Santo and Tanna.
