Thirty Second IOM Inter-American Course on International Migration Opens
Participants from 14 Latin American and Caribbean countries are
today beginning a 14 day intensive training course focused on
regional and international migration trends and to exchange
information and best practices on migration policy and programs in
the Western Hemisphere.
The participants at the Inter-American Course on International
Migration, which starts today in the Argentinean resort city of Mar
del Plata, will exchange information and best practices on
migration policy and programs in the Western Hemisphere and cover
issues related to migration processes in hemisphere, migration
management, international protection of migrants; international,
regional and national migration policies, labour migration,
assistance to migrants, counter-trafficking activities; and
regional consultative processes.
For more than 30 years, the IOM regional office in Buenos Aires
has been active in the preparation of the course, which has trained
more than 650 government officials from Latin America and the
Caribbean. Since 1999, the organizers adopted a shorter and
more intensive training approach to allow senior migration
officials who are not able to leave their posts for several weeks
to attend.
