Thailand Hosts Asia-Pacific Border Management Conference

IOM, the Asia Pacific Smart Card Association (APSCA) and the
Consular Affairs Department of Thailand's Ministry of Foreign
Affairs will host the 1st Conference on Technical Cooperation &
Capacity Building for Border Management in Bangkok next week.

The 3-day event, which will open in Bangkok on Tuesday 19th
January, will bring together over 300 delegates from nearly 40
countries, eight international organizations and the private sector
to discuss cooperation between national authorities responsible for
border control, international organizations and key private sector
players.

The conference, which aims to improve border management in the
Asia-Pacific region through closer cooperation between national
authorities responsible for border control, as well as providing a
forum in which to share best practices, will also include an
exhibition of border management systems and equipment.

Delegates taking part in the event, which will take place in the
Ballroom of Bangkok's Shangri La Hotel, will include officials from
immigration, border control, customs and other government agencies,
as well as technical experts from international organizations and
the private
sector.         

The Official Opening and the Opening Plenary session of the
conference and the exhibition will be open to media on Tuesday
morning between 9.00 am and 1.00 pm. Media wishing to attend can
register at the conference media desk by showing a copy of their
Thai or international press accreditation.
