Temporary Labour Migration Agreement
IOM has signed an agreement with the
Salvadorian Ministry of Labour aimed at strengthening, expediting
and providing increased security to all temporary labour migration
programmes.
IOM's Chief of Mission, Norberto Girón,
the Vice Minister for the Salvadorian diaspora,, Ambassador
Margarita Escobar, and the Minister of Labour and Social Security,
José Roberto Escobar Espinal, hailed the agreement as a
vital step in strengthening the government's capacity in promoting
and managing the temporary movement of labour migrants.
The agreement will pave the way for the
government to implement bilateral labour migration accords with
receiving countries. And IOM will provide its expertise and support
in the recruitment process and in obtaining the necessary travel
documents for the temporary labour migrants.
Since 2002, the IOM office in El Salvador,
working with the Ministries of External Relations and Labour, has
facilitated the temporary movement of Salvadorian workers to meat
processing plants in Canada.
