Switzerland  - Switzerland will mark European Anti-Trafficking Day on October 18th with a conference in Bern organized by IOM in cooperation with the Human Security Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The event, which will be opened by Federal Counselor Simonetta Sommaruga, will also bring together government and cantonal officials, representatives of the Federal Office for Migration (FOM), the Swiss Coordination Unit against the Trafficking of Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (KSMM) and Swiss NGOs Terre des Femmes and FIZ.

IOM Director General William Lacy Swing will address the conference on the subject of human trafficking in Europe.

An estimated 1,500 to 3,000 people are believed to be victims of trafficking in Switzerland every year. Most are young women subjected to sexual exploitation. But there are also male victims, mainly working in the construction industry, agriculture and domestic servitude.
