State-of-the-Art Border Management System Extended to New Area
The IOM mission in Dushanbe has extended
its border management programme to the Bratstvo border crossing
point, which lies to the west of the capital Dushanbe on the border
with Uzbekistan.
A border point established after Tajikistan's
independence in 1991, Bratstvo handles large amounts of truck, car
and pedestrian traffic every day and did not match international
standards of border control until now.
Under the programme funded by the US State
Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement
Affairs (INL), new premises have been built, technical assistance
and training provided to allow border guards to use computers and
state of the art border control equipment provided to detect
fraudulent travel documents.
